Crest Nicholson has launched a new charity partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer, the leading cancer charity for 0-25 year olds.

We will be partnering with Young Lives vs Cancer for the next two years and we hope to raise £300,000 to support children and young people with cancer and their families.

Young Lives vs Cancer help young cancer patients find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.

They know everyone's different, so they work hard to provide support that’s easy to access and meets individual needs. They offer support in a number of different areas:

DAY TO DAY SUPPORT

The Young Lives vs Cancer Social Care teams are experts in helping families handle the day-to-day challenges that come with a child’s cancer diagnosis.

They work in all the main children’s cancer hospitals in the UK. They work closely with doctors, nurses and other NHS professionals as an integral part of the team caring for children with cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer Social Workers provide expert support and advice, tailored to each child, young person and family throughout treatment.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Travelling for treatment is exhausting and expensive.

Young Lives vs Cancer have eleven Home from Homes across the UK, which provide a free place for families to stay when their child is going through cancer treatment. They’re close to specialist hospitals, helping families avoid the extra financial burdens of travel, accommodation and food costs. Homes from Home keep families together at the most difficult of times, when it matters most.

HELPING THEM THRIVE, NOT JUST SURVIVE

Young cancer patients need support not just to survive cancer, but to thrive.

Young Lives vs Cancer Social Workers support children and young people emotionally, building their resilience. They help children and young people keep in touch with friends and they liaise with schools, colleges and workplaces to ensure they aren’t held back in their education and employment.

CANCER COSTS

It’s not right that young people and parents have to worry about money when they need to focus on treatment and all that comes with it.

And as the cost of living crisis continues, children and young people with cancer and their families are facing heartbreaking decisions; choosing between putting the heating on or paying for the petrol to get to hospital. Young Lives vs Cancer provides various financial grants and welfare advice, right from the moment of diagnosis, to help reduce the number of impossible sacrifices young cancer patients and their families have to make.

WHEN A CHILD DIES

Hearing your child isn’t going to get better and that they are going to die is one of the hardest things any parent will ever have to deal with.

Young Lives vs Cancer help the whole family – parents, siblings, grandparents – prepare for death and encourage them to think about how the child or young person can be remembered. Social workers provide incredible bereavement support to help those left behind.

MAKING CHANGE HAPPEN

Young cancer patients often don’t get the support they need from the government.

Young Lives vs Cancer are there to listen to them, basing our research and campaigning on what they are told. And then they campaign on their behalf, championing their voices to politicians and decision makers across the UK.
